Established in 2019, the New Digital Research Infrastructure Organization (NDRIO) is a national not-for-profit organization that is playing a critical role helping to advance the establishment of a researcher-focused, accountable, agile, strategic, and sustainable Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) ecosystem for Canadian researchers. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has earmarked $375 million in funding to consolidate and revitalize the infrastructure and tools offered to researchers and will support activities in advanced research computing (ARC), research data management (RDM) and research software (RS), driving continued excellence in research across all disciplines. In what is a truly auspicious time for Canada’s science, innovation and economic future, NDRIO is seeking a Director, Information Security to help build and shape this new organization.
The Director, Information Security reports to the Vice President, Operations and Security, working closely with senior leadership, NDRIO staff, and relevant external stakeholders. The Director is an advocate for NDRIO’s total information security needs and is responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive informationsecurity strategy to optimize the security posture of the organization. The Director leads the development andimplementation of a security program that leverages collaborations and organization-wide resources, facilitates information security governance, advises senior leadership on security direction and resource investments, and designs appropriatepolicies to manage information security risk. The complexity of this position requires a leadership approach that isengaging, imaginative and collaborative, with a sophisticated ability to work with other leaders to set the best balancebetween security strategies and other priorities at the organization level.
NDRIO’s information technology environment is highly distributed and diverse, with strong leadership and coordination from the Vice President, Operations and Security, and direct report units. We are seeking a deeply experienced, knowledgeable leader to provide vision, strategy, broad-based planning and hands-on responsibility as the Director, Information Security.
As the ideal candidate you bring significant past professional experience in information security/cybersecurity, including supervisory experience, preferably in the higher education sector or Canadian research field. Your experience with regulatory compliance assessments such as PCI, HIPAA, NIST, GLBA and SOX, and developing orcontributing to the development of security policies, will be key to success. In this start-up organization, the ability toplan, manage and maintain complex, long-term, organization-wide programs in IT is required, along with demonstrated experience working, collaborating and establishing credibility and relationships with senior leadership, colleagues and partners. Bilingualism is an asset. NDRIO’s head office is based in Ottawa, however the role can be located anywhere across Canada.
